After 25 hours travelling I got to Singapore tired but happy last Sunday. After all checkings etc. in London and Hongkong, I decided next time to fly directly with Finnair even more expensive instead of choosing the cheapest route. There was nothing wrong with Cathay Pacific but those airport controls took a lot of time and trouble. However I was lucky in timing as Heathtrow was closed few hours later because of a snow storm. Then as a curiosity between Hongkong and Singapore there was only 67 passegers instead of about 480. A chinaman and me, we devided the last compartment for about 100, and had both our private stewardess. I had a lot of time to chat with that of mine, who promised a first class service to me.
Singapore is absolutely not the same city it used to be during my last visit over 20 years ago, not to mention my first visit in 1972. Huge skycrapers and wow-buildnings at Orchard Road and elsewhere have changed the character of the city totally. It is still very tidy and friendly to tourists and Hotel Raffles' Longbar is selling more Singapore Slings than ever. I was not studying any sights excatly, just walking a lot to stop sometimes for a refreshing Bavarian beer. A couple of nights in Singapore went quickly, and I was ready board the cruiser P&O's "Arcadia".
