Little bit about Syros

I have seen four or five ways how they write this town's name . Here is another one,Hermoupolis. This is a remarkable good looking neoclassical town, offering as all these Aegean islands history back of 6000 years. Syros is in the middle of islands called Cyclades.During thousands of years this place was not only attacked by pirates but invaded by Phoenicians,Cretans,Ionians,Athenians,Romans,Byzantines,Venetians,Franks,Turks, lately by Italians and Germans. Also British and Australian troops fought here but on Greek side.
Only the Finns never attacked here, except of course the Finnish tourist ladies who cannot keep their fingers off of heroic Greek men. Finnish soldiers have had already for centuries enough to do, when attacking the brave and peaceful Russian workers and farmers . You can read all about this in Sovjetrussian history books.
